The European Union is organising a nation-wide amateur photography contest in Jordan under the patronage of HRH Princess Wijdan Ali.
Speaking on behalf of the local EU Presidency in Amman, Peter van der Vliet, Deputy Head of Mission of the Netherlands Embassy, said that the photo contest is a new EU initiative in addition to existing events such as the annual EU Film Festival.
Mr. Van der Vliet said all residents of Jordan aged 15 and over can participate in the photo contest. They can choose from three themes: Nature and Environment, Women and Society, and Picnic. Only one photo per theme is allowed. Photos have to be submitted in hard copy and without frame to the Royal Netherlands Embassy in Amman. The recommended size is 30x40 cm. However, other sizes are also acceptable. Photos may be either in colour or in black and white.
Participants have until 1 September to take pictures and send them the Royal Netherlands Embassy. Photos received by the Embassy after 10 September will not enter the competition.
An expert jury will select the winning photo in each of the three categories. Each winner will receive a digital camera. Jordan Airports Duty Free Shops Aldeasa, Digital Creations, and Salbashian Trading Company are sponsoring the contest by donating the prizes.
The prize ceremony will take place at the opening of a two-week photo exhibition to be held later this year.
